OKLAHOMA CITY, Sept. 10, 2012 – Oklahoma City continues to attract attention for its low unemployment and high private-sector job growth, ranking No. 1 on the On Numbers Economic Index for the month of September. The index awarded Oklahoma City with an overall score of 91.042, which topped the next-ranking city by more than five points.
"These rankings confirm that Oklahoma City's success is built on a strong foundation, including our job growth, low unemployment, construction and retail development and the strength of our housing market," said Roy H. Williams, president and CEO of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber. "Accolades of this kind only underscore what people in Oklahoma City already know: this is a great place to do business."
The index report stated that workers' earnings in Oklahoma City, at 11.9 percent, have grown faster than any other market during the past year. This factor, along with 17 other components of the ranking formula, determined Oklahoma City's placement on the list.
In addition to Oklahoma City, Austin, Texas and Omaha, Neb. round out the top three cities on the index. The top eight metros on the list are all located in the heartland of America.
While the September report was the first index to be publically released, Oklahoma City also ranked No. 1 on a previously-calculated August index. More details about the On Numbers Economic Index for the month of September can be found here: http://bit.ly/QybKHI.
