Oklahoma City-based i2E Inc. has earned international acclaim for its efforts to grow entrepreneurial businesses.
Tuesday, the company received an excellence award at the International Economic Development Council conference in Reno, Nev.
It was recognized with the council's Best Practices Award for Technology-based Economic Development for its comprehensive commercialization services.
i2E is a not-for-profit company that mentors many of Oklahoma's technology-based startup companies.
"Furthering economic development is rarely a simple task in the best of times, and advancing the cause in the midst of a global financial crisis is nothing less than arduous," said council chairman Ian Bromley. "As the consequences of the widespread economic turmoil have taken hold, we have seen our members become even more ardent proponents of economic development, flying in the face of one of the most challenging economic environments we have experienced in our careers. We proudly present this award to i2E Inc., for its superior work during these difficult times."
i2E President and CEO Tom Walker accepted the award, which was open to organizations that serve areas with more than 200,000 people.
"We are grateful that the IEDC recognized the suite of programs that we have implemented to help Oklahomans advance technology, grow the knowledge job base and build wealth for the state," Walker said. "Our team is committed to seeing that our client companies and entrepreneurs flourish, knowing that it ultimately benefits all Oklahomans."
i2E provides commercialization services to Oklahoma entrepreneurs.
It also manages a proof-of-concept fund and the Oklahoma Seed Capital Fund through a contract with the Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology.
The company also manages the Seed Step Angels investment group and the Donald W. Reynolds Governor's Cup, a collegiate business plan competition.
