Community Overview
Mustang is a safe, vibrant bedroom community with a professional workforce where quality of life is the main attraction. Although settlers first came here in the late 1800s, Mustang was not incorporated into a city until 1969. Since then, the population has continually grown to 24,049, making us one of the youngest, fastest growing communities in the state.
Location
There is a reason folks are attracted to Mustang: it has small town charm with quick and convenient access to metropolitan shopping and entertainment. Mustang is located on the southwestern gateway to the Oklahoma City Metro area (pop. 1.4 million) at the intersections of State Highway 4 and State Highway 152, and just five minutes south of Interstate 40.
The community is located along the historic Chisholm Trail (famous for the cattle drives of the 1800's)
Business Location Benefits
Although our City limits only encompasses 12-square miles, Mustang’s market area is estimated at ten times that area and includes a population of nearly 70,000. Mustang is home to a national publishing company, great restaurants, and a number of national retailers. Local household incomes well exceed the state average, traffic counts are ever increasing, and there is ample opportunity for future growth in a number of market sectors.
The City of Mustang actively recruits high-quality commercial development. Mustang has many shovel-ready pad sites available throughout the community including lots near our busiest intersections. You will find our development team to be flexible, business friendly and well prepared to help you move forward with your project.
Academics
One of the primary draws to our community is the outstanding school system, one of the largest in the state. With many nationally accredited teachers on staff, students have an opportunity to reach their maximum potential. In fact, the school system was one of a handful of Oklahoma districts to receive a perfect rating (10) from GreatSchools.org.
Many outstanding colleges and universities are all within driving distance. Oklahoma City University, one of the nation’s premier performing arts schools, is only 30 minutes from Mustang. The University of Oklahoma is less than an hour away, and a number of two-year institutions are all within easy driving distance.
The Canadian Valley Technology center at SW 15th St. and Czech Hall Road offers low-cost and no cost employee training programs. CVTC provides specialized technical training in a multitude of areas that make our workforce one of the nation’s best!
Family Values
Town Center, the crown jewel of the 160-acre Wild Horse Park, is a state-of-the-art gathering place for recreational and cultural activities. The community provides programs specially designed for the young and old alike. Whether you want to sit down with a great book in our library, explore our walking trails or make waves at our aquatics center, you will have a great time here all year long!
Every September, over 30,000 “cowboys” and “cowgirls” descend on our community as we celebrate our Chisholm Trail heritage during the famous Western Days Festival. This event, held the first weekend after Labor Day, is the city’s official homecoming where one can enjoy live music, dining, art and the best parade in the county!
