How clinical trials at the Stephenson Cancer Center changed one manís lifePublished: Monday, December 11, 2017 By: Jim Stafford Source: NewsOK
On the afternoon before Thanksgiving two years ago, Mike Schuster was working as a consultant for a roofing company in Blanchard. Just finish up the numbers for this last job, he told himself, and you can call it quits for the holiday weekend.
He remembers studying the numerals that filled his computer screen. The next thing he recalls is awakening in an ambulance.
At the hospital, at MRI of Mike's brain showed a bright, oval-shaped spot on the right frontal lobe. About the size and shape of a kiwi, a tumor had formed just above his right eye. The doctor told Mike that his tumor was a form of brain cancer — and had to come out immediately.
“I've been healthy all my life,” said Mike, who was 50 at the time. “No medical issues at all. I couldn't believe this was happening.”
