Will Rogers World Airport will receive more than $9 million in federal grants to make improvements throughout the airport.
The money is part of the Federal Aviation Administration's Airport Improvement Program, which eventually will allocate $3.18 billion to airports throughout the United States.
The projects at Will Rogers include reconstruction of the apron, which is the large paved area where aircraft move into position at the terminal. Funds also will be used to rehabilitate an access road and purchase snow removal equipment. The total amount set aside for the airport is $9.31 million.
Airport spokeswoman Karen Carney said the city applied to purchase two runway snow and ice removal sweepers, which are large pieces of equipment with 18-foot-wide brushes, or brooms, for snow that's less than 3 inches deep.
