A revolutionary treatment that turns T cells into "serial killers" to attack tumors is now available to cancer patients in Oklahoma.
Doctors at the Stephenson Cancer Center at OU Medicine announced Wednesday the CAR T therapy initially will be used to treat advanced leukemias and lymphomas in adults. They expect to offer the treatment for children by September.
“CAR T is a major breakthrough for patients who have not improved with standard treatments,” said Dr. George Selby, director of the Stem Cell and Cellular Transplant Program at the cancer center. "This is really a rebooting of the immune system to fight cancer."
