Kratos Defense & Security Solutions has ramped up production of its Firejet unmanned aircraft at its Oklahoma City facility and has plans to expand production there next year.
The publicly traded company is on pace to manufacture and assemble three Firejets each month. The aircraft, worth about half a million dollars each, is used as a target drone for U.S. military and foreign clients and can simulate enemy jets.
Senior Operations Manager Pete Pepaj said he expects to increase production to five Firejet drones per month next year for the company, whose unmanned division is based in Sacramento.
Starting next year, Kratos also will build another drone in Oklahoma City, the XQ-58 Valkyrie, and is looking at performing flight tests in western Oklahoma at the Burns Flat Air and Space Port. Technicians already conduct final engine tests at the production facility before packing the drones into a crate and shipping them off to customers.
