On March 11, the night of the last Oklahoma City Thunder game, the Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center was preparing for a weekend of grand opening festivities, when the city suddenly seemed to shut down. The Contemporary staff made the difficult decision to postpone the celebrations and the staff left the new building, heading home to work.
The Contemporary team has been keeping people excited about the new space on its blog, New Light, which features #AtHomeArt projects for all ages, the #Illuminations video series, artist spotlights, #FridayFilms, deep dives into the inaugural exhibitions, slow TV and more. The Contemporary is live-streaming artist studio visits on Instagram, sharing resources and highlighting local organizations on Facebook. On Twitter,the Contemporary is posting meaningful reads and industry news, and along with the rest of the country, the staff is mooning over Tim at #HashtagTheCowboy.
"Our creative-while-quarantined content is meant to give our community a way to explore contemporary art, ideas and talents from the comfort of your couch," said Lori Brooks, communications director at the Contemporary. "If you’re not already reading, watching and doing, you’re missing out."
