With 7.7% of businesses in Oklahoma owned by veterans, including 8.5% of businesses in the OKC metro area, the state ranked No. 6 in veteran-owned businesses according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, U.S. Department of Labor and U.S. Census Bureau.

The data showed 5,272 total businesses owned by veterans in the state employing more than 60,000, with annual revenue eclipsing $5.0 billion. In the OKC metro, 2,476 businesses are veteran-owned with 20,790 employees. Additionally, among veterans that are active in the civilian workforce, the unemployment rate was 4.4% nationwide vs. 5.3% among the general public.

This isn't the first veteran-related accolade to come OKC's way recently. Oklahoma City has received recognition for being budget-friendly for veterans, a top city for veteran homebuyers, the best city for retired veterans and more.
