U.S. Air Force B-52 bombers and E-3 AWACS aircraft, the surveillance planes with the distinctive rotating radar domes, got a new lease on life after Pratt & Whitney received a $870 million long-term sustainment contract for the TF33 engine, with work at Tinker Air Force Base through 2034.
Under the contract, Pratt & Whitney, which started a $255-million sustainment center in Oklahoma City in March, an expansion, will provide engine sustainment services for a global fleet of nearly 1,000 TF33 engines for up to 10 years, including engines on Boeing’s B-52 Stratofortress and E-3 Sentry.
The contract was awarded by the Defense Logistics Agency.

The agreement is another extension of the agency's decades-long work with the 448th Supply Chain Management Wing at Tinker and Pratt & Whitney, according to the engine maker and servicer, a subsidiary of defense contractor RTX Corp., formerly Raytheon Technologies, in Arlington, Virginia.
