Oklahoma ranks among most affordable states for household bills

Oklahoma ranks as the third most affordable state in the country for monthly household bills, according to an article from CNBC, which utilized a report from bill pay service doxo.
The company released its 2025 Cost of Bills Index in May. The index compares the 13 most common household bills across the U.S., including mortgage; rent; auto loan; gas; electric; water and sewer; waste and recycling; auto insurance; cable, internet and phone; health insurance; mobile phone; alarm and security; and life insurance.
Doxo based the rankings on the median cost of these bills in each state. The national average was set at 100, with states scoring below that number considered less expensive.
Oklahoma received a Cost of Bills Index score of 75, which places it 25% below the national median. It shares the same score with Arkansas and ranks just above New Mexico, which scored 77. West Virginia ranked as the least expensive state with a score of 56, 44% below the national median.
The average U.S. household spends $24,695 per year on these bills. The national median monthly mortgage is $1,775 and rent is $1,453.
