Oklahoma has earned national recognition as one of the most outdoorsy states in the country, ranking seventh in Tractor Supply’s new Outdoor Happiness Report.

The report surveyed residents across 32 states and measured outdoor activities such as walking, hiking, biking, gardening and wildlife watching. Oklahomans stood out for their strong participation in walking, with 84.6% of residents reporting regular outdoor walks.

The study also found that Oklahomans are frequent visitors to green spaces and are active in gardening and wildlife watching, showing a balance of both recreational and everyday outdoor engagement. These activities add up to a lifestyle that connects residents to nature in both urban and rural settings.

The ranking reflects the wide range of outdoor opportunities available across the state. In Oklahoma City, investments such as MAPS 4 continue to expand trails, parks and recreational amenities, while communities statewide enjoy access to more than 200 lakes, scenic hiking areas and open prairies. From urban walking paths to state parks, Oklahomans are taking advantage of the resources around them to build active, outdoor-centered routines.

By placing in the top 10 most outdoorsy states, Oklahoma demonstrates that a strong outdoor culture is not limited to mountain or coastal regions. Everyday habits, whether it’s walking in a neighborhood park, hiking local trails or enjoying time in the garden, have positioned the state as a leader in outdoor living.
