STILLWATER — Ten years since the Stillwater Regional Airport began offering commercial flights, the facility has now quadrupled in size with the grand opening of a $27 million passenger terminal on Wednesday.

The Federal Aviation Administration, the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics and the City of Stillwater collectively funded the new terminal, a 31,375-square-foot behemoth complete with expanded baggage claim, more seating and space for future airline and security expansion.

“The entire terminal is designed to support air service for the next 50 years,” Stillwater Regional Airport Director Kellie Reed said in a press release. “Our new, world-class terminal has room to grow.”

American Airlines already operates out of Stillwater Regional Airport, one of only four airports in Oklahoma to offer commercial flights and one of only two located outside the state’s largest urban centers. However, the addition of two new ticket counters allows the carrier to expand while providing space for another airline in the future. The terminal also has room for a second TSA screening lane as passenger demand grows.
